Job summary

ReAssure, part of the Phoenix Group are recruiting a Head of ReAssure Financial Planning and Accounting to join our team within the Finance function. The position will preferably be based in Telford on a six-month internal secondment basis. This role is only available to internal candidates to apply.

You will be responsible for production of MI & Reporting on the performance of the ReAssure business unit within the Phoenix Group. This includes Group Performance Reporting, Board Reporting and RMC reporting as well as co-ordination of the financial aspects of the Annual Planning (AOP) Process for ReAssure.

You will be required to retain key liaison with stakeholders within both Phoenix Group and the ReAssure business unit.

You will also play a key role in developing the culture and operating model of the ReAssure Finance function and championing collaborative ways of working between the ReAssure Finance teams to deliver best in class reporting and commercial insight.

Key responsibilities will include:

Group FP&A

  • Accountable for cost budgeting and cost management and for analysing and tracking performance against KPIs, historical financials, and current variance explanations.
  • Accountable to produce all Board MI, ensuring consistency across ReAssure.

External reporting

  • Accountable for and owns all external financial documents, e.g. Report and Accounts, Statutory filings, Solvency and Financial Condition Report (SFCR), financial submissions to the regulator for all entities within the Group.
  • Works with the Head of Investor Relations to communicate with and manage external stakeholders.
  • Owns and produces the analyst presentation and other communication materials as required.
  • Liaises with the Head of Consolidation and Analysis and the Group Financial Controller to ensure that financial reporting meets the requirements of external stakeholders.
  • Manages queries in relation to the Group’s external financial reporting and provides feedback as required to the Head of Investor Relations.

Stakeholder management

  • Represents Finance across the ReAssure group, ensuring our strategic priorities, functional developments, and risks are understood and supported amongst senior stakeholders.
  • Attends and chairs committees and management forums as directed to represent Group Finance.

 Leadership and line management

  • Plays a leading role in establishing new ways of working and procedures to support the New Group Finance structure.
  • Inputs into and implements departmental strategy, ensuring that the different teams are aligned and supportive.
  • Leads by example by displaying the leadership imperatives and driving our desired Risk culture.
  • Provides appropriate support and ongoing development to their team to ensure it is adequately equipped and motivated to meet the needs of the businesses.
  • Actively endorses and drives employee engagement and development activity across Finance. Acts as an escalation point, coach and mentor for team members.
  • Proactively addresses the issues from the Employee Engagement Survey for Finance to improve engagement with the team.

Key skills/experience required: 

  • Ability to establish and execute group wide processes to support key role responsibilities.
  • Ability to shape and drive the vision for the business, balancing long-term goals with short-term, pragmatic business needs.
  • Expertise in financial planning, including long-term planning, rolling forecasts, and producing investor presentations to present this information.
  • Expertise in plans vs actuals reporting, cost reporting, and business partnering.
  • Strong understanding of financial planning and forecasting, Group Reporting and Group Solvency.
  • Thorough understanding of the insurance industry and financial markets.
  • Thorough knowledge of financial reporting operations, including processes, tools and systems, controls.
  • Understanding of the regulatory capital regimes applicable to, or adopted by, ReAssure (Solvency II, Economic Capital), including the regulatory requirements, framework, process, methodology, reporting requirements and assumptions for Balance Sheet management.
  • Knowledge of actuarial techniques such as reserving, economic valuation, capital modelling calculations, unit pricing, bonus setting.
  • Proven experience of leading a reporting function, including experience in managing teams and associated budgets under matrix structures.
  • Fully qualified Accountant or Actuary with 10 years of PQE within a finance leadership role.

This position has been identified as a role falling under the Senior Managers & Certification Regime. As a result of this, in addition to standard assessment and interview processes, fitness & propriety will be assessed throughout your recruitment process.
